The Professor Tord Kjellström Indicator Development Award for Mental Health and Climate Change

In memory of Professor Tord Envold Kjellström (1948–2025), a pioneering environmental and occupational health scientist and long-standing contributor to the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, the Lancet Countdown is launching a call for applications to develop an indicator monitoring the mental health impacts of climate change-related hazards.

We are seeking an expert (or expert team) to develop a rigorous, scientific indicator that follows the Lancet Countdown’s indicator criteria. The selected expert(s) will lead the development of this indicator, and work in close collaboration with the Lancet Countdown team to ensure suitability for inclusion in its annual monitoring system.

Applicants with expertise in mental health, climate change, epidemiology, public health indicators, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Professor Kjellström’s work advanced understanding of the health impacts of environmental change, occupational heat exposure, and climate-related risks worldwide. This award honours his commitment to rigorous science, public health, and climate action.
