Contribute to
our science

The Lancet Countdown is committed to continuously improving our work, and ensuring our outputs reflect the best available science. We welcome engagement with new academic partners globally to input on our indicators, particularly inviting contributions of colleagues from underrepresented groups in academic research and institutions.

Ways to contribute

We continuously welcome contributions to the Lancet Countdown’s annual indicator reports, either by developing new indicators, helping improve existing ones, or contributing to other academic work.

Develop a new indicator

We welcome ideas for new policy-relevant indicators which fit within the frameworks of our five Working Groups. There are two routes to submit a proposal for a new indicator:

  1. Request for Proposals (RFPs):Indicators listed in RFPs have been identified by our academic leadership as priority new indicators for development and introduction to our annual indicator report. You can submit an indicator white-paper in response to one of our RFPs outlined at the bottom of this page.
  2. Open Submission: if you would like to propose a relevant new indicator which is not listed under our RFP section, use the form below to complete an ‘Open Submission’ indicator white-paper. These will be reviewed quarterly by our academic leadership, taking into account its fit with our indicator frameworks and priorities.

Funding for the development of indicators must be secured by contributing authors.

Help improve existing indicators

Our climate change and health indicators are updated annually across each of our global and regional centres. The data sources and methodologies behind each of our indicators are published with the appendix of each indicator report. To propose an improvement to any of our existing indicators, please submit your suggestions using the ‘indicator improvement proposals’ form below. Submissions will be reviewed by the Working Group Lead and the authors of the current indicator. If deemed suitable, you will be contacted by the academic lead.
