Vacancy: Research Fellow in Climate Change and Public Health
Lancet Countdown
02/10/2026

The Lancet Countdown are seeking a new Research Fellow in Climate Change and Public Health.

The postholder will support the delivery of the health research and academic initiatives of the Lancet Countdown, and the development of research to quantify the impacts of climate on health.

Background

The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change is an independent, international, multidisciplinary research collaboration. It brings together over 300 researchers from across the world, to track the health impacts of climate change, and evolving health opportunities of climate action, through more than 50 scientific indicators.

The Lancet Countdown was established in 2016, and has grown to include six regional centres, gaining international recognition and relevance to become a global authority on climate change and health. As the profile of the climate change and health gains prominence, in particular following the first Health Day at COP28, the Lancet Countdown commenced a new phase of increased ambition in 2024.

About the role

The appointee will join the Secretariat of the Lancet Countdown, an international and multidisciplinary research collaboration based at University College London’s Institute for Global Health in London.

The successful candidate will have experience in climate change and global health and/or epidemiology, with strong quantitative skills and the ability to apply this expertise across climate change and health research. This will include supporting the development and evaluation of indicators of the health impacts of climate change, policies and actions to address climate change, and use of findings to inform real-world impact.

The postholder will support the delivery of the health research and academic initiatives of the Lancet Countdown, including the collation of health and epidemiological evidence for the annual Global Lancet Countdown Report, Regional Reports, special issues, and additional academic and research outputs. They will also support the development of research to quantify the impacts of climate on health, and the health opportunities of climate change mitigation and adaptation action.

Deadline: 22 October 2026
