Consultation open: Help shape climate change and health research for impact
Lancet Countdown
15/08/2025

The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change has launched a global consultation to refine its suite of climate change and health indicators – an essential step in ensuring that its annual assessments remain relevant, inclusive, and impactful in a rapidly evolving world.

This consultation is part of a research project inviting individuals working at the intersection of climate change and health to contribute their insights through a structured online survey, which will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. This survey is focused on the Global Lancet Countdown’s work.

Why this matters

The Lancet Countdown is an international research collaboration that brings together over 300 experts from around the world to track progress on health and climate change. Each year, it publishes a comprehensive report based on more than 60 indicators, grouped into five working group domains. These indicators are used by researchers, policymakers, advocates, and communities to inform action and shape responses to the health impacts of climate change.

As the initiative enters a new phase, the Lancet Countdown is reassessing its indicators to ensure they reflect the most pressing priorities. This consultation is a key part of that process.

“We want to hear from those who use, interact with, or are impacted by our indicators – whether through research, policy, advocacy, or lived experience,” said Dr Marina Romanello, Executive Director of the Lancet Countdown. “Your insights will help us build a more inclusive and responsive framework for tracking climate change and health progress.”

Who can participate?

The consultation is open to individuals who are actively engaged in climate change and health work, such as:

  • Professionals working in health, climate, or environmental sectors
  • Policymakers and government advisors
  • Members of advocacy organisations or NGOs
  • Individuals with lived experience of climate-related health impacts

What will happen with the results?

The insights gathered will directly inform the refinement of the indicators and help shape future Lancet Countdown global reports. The findings from this consultation will also be published in an academic report. All participants will receive a copy of the report once it becomes available.
