The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change and the World Health Organization (WHO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), strengthening collaboration to support global monitoring and action across health and climate change.

The agreement formalises and builds on a longstanding strategic partnership between the Lancet Countdown and WHO and will support the development of our shared goals of advancing global monitoring of health and climate change, including the impacts of climate change on human wellbeing and the health effects and opportunities associated with mitigation and adaptation responses.

Key areas of collaboration include the joint development of indicators and monitoring activities, engagement with national governments, and collaborative communications, policy engagement activities and events. The MoU also strengthens our collaboration through the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), where we co-lead efforts to accelerate action on climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable health systems.

The signing of the MoU marks an important milestone in our ongoing collaboration with WHO and reinforces our shared commitment to generating and communicating evidence that supports health-centred climate action worldwide.
