It will also provide them with the opportunity to expand the regional representation within the Global Lancet Countdown activities; and to inform a health-centred response to climate change that takes into account the needs, knowledge and opportunities of African people.
This new position is a full-time role and is available until May 2027.
Background
The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change is an independent, international, multidisciplinary research collaboration enabled by funding and strategic support from the Wellcome Trust. It brings together almost 300 researchers across the globe, to track the world’s response to climate change and monitor the associated health implications via more than 40 indicators built on the latest science.
The Lancet Countdown Europe is the Regional Centre of the Lancet Countdown, working to develop indicators on climate change and health for Europe, and translate their evidence into policy-informing action.
The IDAlert project is a Horizon Europe research initiative that focuses on strengthening Europe’s resilience to infectious disease threats exacerbated by climate change. It addresses the growing risk of zoonotic diseases driven by rising temperatures, biodiversity loss, and changing ecosystems. IDAlert aims to develop decision-support tools, early warning systems, and indicators to help anticipate and respond to outbreaks.
